Yo, fellow creative one!

Beyond the Kitchen is a window into my stream of thought.  It will be used for displaying stuff that I find interesting and intriguing as well as some personal insights into:

  • What mischief I’m getting up to
  • What is currently cooking in the kitchen
  • My thoughts and views

NEWSY NEWS: Written thoughts and ideas will be posted below sporadically, while inspirational images/hilarious gifs/cool quotes have migrated to my Tumblr account!

Enjoy!

Apr 10th, 2012

Its been a while, sorry for the sudden disappearance, but its been a hectic time.

I have got a couple personal projects in the pipeline. One infographic… so far, a booklet, some tshirts and a top secret project which will be soon announced.

The infographic project is currently still on the notepad, its sports related, and should be ready come mid-June, care to guess which sport it will be on?
The booklet is about my immediate family, and its been in the works on and off since December, from the notepad, computer, unhappy face, back to the notepad and now its slowly moving back to the computer. Depending on how things go I hope to have it ready (printed that is) come July/August.
As for the VISION t-shirts I have decided to create a range and merge it with Maji into one package, called simply ‘À La Fritz.’ I have been toiling away to create some new designs, and I have sorted out the packaging, labelling and printing side just last week so things are getting close! My next step is to get some samples and test the water down in Camden Market and on Brick Lane.

On this note, its back to some work for me, but I leave you with a beautifully remixed track:

Jan 23rd, 2012

Hey,

I’m back on the island, the UK that is! Im currently job hunting for a position at a cool studio anywhere in the world. Anywhere, not out of desperation but because I love to move and discover new places. I’v been doing it my whole life so the bug is in me, and it won’t let me stop… Thats my main aim for the next couple of months/years. However I cannot bring myself to apply to jobs 24/7 so I am also doing some freelancing on the side.

There are some cool projects I am currently working on that I will add soon! I also have started on the book based on my family (mom, dad and sister). I might have talked about it a while back in one of the older posts and I have finally gotten round to it. I plan to have it done in a few weeks so it would be a belated inverted-birthday gift from me to my family for my birthday.

I wish you all a happy 2012, I know I am late, but as the saying goes, better late than never!

Oct 14th, 2011

Its been a minute since I’v written anything, but like anyone else iv plowed through hours of music in that time, and I’v come across a couple gems, but as this weekend is just getting started with work winding down, something chill is definitely needed. So without anymore rambling, I give you Star Slinger hailing from Manchester in England. Iv posted three of my favorites here yet there are many more amazing tracks on his soundcloud page.

The Morning Benders – Cold War (Star Slinger Remix)

Gold Panda – Marriage (Star Slinger Remix)

Enjoy the weekend! Autumn is here and winter is just around the corner…..Oh yes, one last thing, I will be updating the website this weekend as well as adding a couple more poster designs to my Society6 account if I find time.

title=4 weeks in

Sep 30th, 2011

So, I started my internship at Navone Associati, four weeks ago with another collegue of mine from the Masters program Patricia D`Ambros. I will fill you in later when I feel we can disclose what we are working on, but its highly interesting and quite a big deal!
Navone is a small design agency with a big clients and a long history, and they specialize in a range of design, exhibiton and trade fair all the way through product down to branding and graphics.
I enjoy the work environment which is very easy going, and everyone (from the different fields) work together on a number of projects which is brilliant.

On a side note, I am a great admirer of David McCandless`s work, so I follow his Information is Beautiful blog fairly religiously. I came across his new idea for a monthly and yearly Information if Beautiful infographic competition, and I plan on participating as much as I can in them. There is also a napkin entry for those who have minimal time to create a crisp, finalized, infographic which makes it all about the idea and vision more than about the actual graphical capabilities of the person. Id strongly suggest to check it out, and give it a go!

Apart from work at Navone and trying to complete some infographic designs for the competition in my free time, I have pushed back completing some other personal projects like two infographic related books as well as my apparel designs I had planned to commence. I hope to clear up sometime, and make the most of the spare time I have to complete the projects before they drift too far into the background to be revived or completely forgotten.

Oh yeah, I also plan on tweaking the website soon, so keep your eyes peeled for minor adjustments!

Jul 20th, 2011

I just completed the taught section of my masters. Il start the internship phase in september, so I have a free month to work on whatever I please… about time. Iv been meaning to finish Maji but I have decided to create a book about my immediate family. I have all the information, I just need to sit down and find a way to arrange and display it in a cool way.
Anyway, as I had promised below is a photo showing a collection of all the work we had done during our year. We had to be grilled by a commission about our projects and backup our decisions.

For the presentation I created an A1 poster, minimalistic as usual, showing a run down of what we had done during the year. The heptagon shows the duration of classes in days from the centre outward. The top bar graph shows the number of projects per class, while the line graph below shows my Serotonin levels, (rough estimates) to show how much I was enjoying each class. The last one, sadly without an insert, shows my improvements in different areas such as Photoshop and Typography.

Jul 17th, 2011

Hey there,

Yup sunday morning, 8am and I am up! My parents have been in town for a week after not seeing them for a whole year. This is the Riha family. I was also thinking of doing an infographic book about us since it can be extremely interesting.

On the good news front, I discovered my groups project Lambrate Zone 3 – Milano was featured in this weeks From Up North Print Inspiration section. Thanks to the guys at From Up North for this hook up!
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

UPDATE…
[ Monday 18 July ]

One of my infographics UK General Trade has been featured on the tumblr account of Data Visualization. Many thanks to Benjamin Wiederkehr at Data Visualzation for the feature, to check out the tumblr account, click HERE.

Ahhhh!!! i stumbled across these killer shoes awhile back, but failed to get round to actually purchasing a pair… and I still havent done that. But I can guarantee it will be soon. I just need to find the stores that sell them.
Make sure you’ve hidden that credit card before hitting up the website, because I misplaced a few hours to many hunting on the ‘internets’ for a viable store that had the shoes I wanted, sadly to no avail.

Jul 10th, 2011

I kind of just stumbled across this book, but Im planning buying it for two reasons. The most important is that it has an amazing name – The Elements of F*cking Style, and the second reason is that well its all about grammar, not explained in the usual way that was all too routine, structured and dull, but in a way that makes it interesting and colourful. And its only $10…
now you want one too right?

The hunt is over, the time is now… I have managed to tie down a placement at Navone Associati. Il be starting in September, but I have a final meeting on Monday, who knows why… no Im not jumping the gun, it was confirmed I have the position, otherwise I would have kept it quiet until i was certain. The company is quite small, and Im excited to start and see what different projects I will be working on as they have a pretty cool portfolio.
One task checked off, now onto the next:
Now to prepare for the final presentation to a 4 or 5 person board as part of our degree. Got most stuff done, just need to collect all the works we completed throughout the year. Il post some pictures of the final stuff next week monday, since the presentations on tuesday. Catch you later.

Hey there,

This being my first blog post on my new website and all, Id like to say hello and show what I just picked up from the printers. The blogs from here on out will be laid back, meaning slang-a-plenty and dont be afraid when words are misspelt or punctuation is sloppy… its a chill blog after all.

When this post goes up, Im still in Milano, on a ludicrously hot day. Iv picked up my new portfolio, CV and business cards, and they are looking good! I have attached a few photos of them below!
